Summer Day Camp
All of our day camps and the Counselor in Training program will be held at a school site close to the Downtown Berkeley YMCA for drop off, pick up, and on-site days. Our Summer Extravaganza will be held at the Downtown Berkeley YMCA. Camps will often leave the site throughout the day for age-appropriate field trips and YMCA facility visits. Details about daily trips will be provided on calendars available one week before each camp session. Every Friday campers enjoy a carnival-like atmosphere a theme like “crazy hat day” or “Halloween in July” with relay games, water games and "campers choice" activities at the site to end our week with a bang! All camps will engage in creative reading and mathematics programming in fun non-traditional learning environments to minimize summer learning loss.
New this year! We will provide a healthy organic lunch and snack every day.*

The Kindergarten Transition Camp is a perfect way to help young campers transition into their new school experience. Kindergarten teachers helped develop a curriculum to assist your child in getting ready for school. We practice listening skills, conflict resolution, sharing and independence skills within our daily activities. Camp fun includes activities geared specifically for our younger audience with sports, nature projects, art, dance, swimming lessons, and trips to Kindergym. Campers explore the Berkeley area, and will visit local attractions such as Fairyland and Tilden Park. We strive to create exciting activities while providing a safe and fun learning environment.

Our leadership program is a great way to stay connected to camp, learn what it means to lead by example, and be a part of a community. This program is designed to give teens the opportunity to spend the summer with other teens, work with children, and have fun! During these 2-week sessions our young leaders participate in “working with youth” trainings with our C.I.T. Head Leader. Trainings focus on communicating with children, appropriate camp behavior, conflict resolution, leading group activities, and safety. C.I.T.’s will assist our camp leaders with their small groups during camp and on field trips, plan camp projects, and spend time as a group on their own trips. The program operates in 2-week sessions.

This internship program is a great way for your teen to put their new leadership skills into action! Our Junior Counselors are part of a camp group for 2 weeks, helping counselors, leading games, building relationships with younger campers and being a positive role model. All Junior Counselor Interns must have at least one session of C.I.T. or complete an application and participate in an interview with the Camp Director. Each participant will receive a certificate of work at the end of their 2 weeks.
